This teaching material consists of a text part (see below) and an animation. The text part contains the detailed description of the individual phases of the cardiac cycle. The animation shows the mechanical events in the heart during the cardiac cycle including the arterial pulse, electrocardiogram, heart sounds, venous pulse, pressure and volume changes in the right atrium and in the left ventricle.
The following animation can help you in better understanding of the cardiac cycle. The mechanical events in the heart including blood flow direction are shown in the left part of the screen. A graph in the right part contains pressure and volume changes in the heart and arteries, electrocardiogram and phonocardiogram. The animation is handled by means of green buttons bellow the graph.
