Legal Medicine – Forensic Pathology

The major topics in Legal/Forensic Medicine are Thanatology and Forensic Pathology, Clinical Forensic Medicine, Medical Law and related Jurisprudence. Forensic pathology applies the principles of pathology to the study of sudden, unexpected, violent, and suspicious death in order to determine the cause, mechanism and manner of death.

Forensic Aspects of Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the oldest and most widely used psychoactive drug in the world and most common single substance encountered in toxicologic analyses. Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) is the main psychoactive ingredient in alcoholic beverages. The clinical features of acute ethanol intoxication are dependent on the blood concentration (BAC). Acute alcohol poisoning is life-threatening condition that requires emergency medical attention.
